Maya’s IRONMAN Triathlon to benefit Empower1:
In continuing tradition of promoting active and healthy lifestyle, Empower1 is very pleased to announce our partnership with Maya Sherpa in her Lake Placid IRONMAN Triathalon to raise funds for Empower1.
About IRONMAN Triathlon:
IRONMAN Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride and a marathon 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run, raced in that order and in one day. IRONMAN events have a strict time limit of 17 hours to complete the race. The race begins at 7:00 AM, and there are strict cut-off times to complete each leg of the race (Swim in 2hr 20min, Bike by 5:30PM, and run by midnight).
About Maya Sherpa:
Maya Sherpa, originally from Kathmandu, Nepal, currently resides in New York City, USA. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications from Baruch College, New York and currently works as a National Television Investment Supervisor at OMD, a very successful advertising firm. She is a passionate athlete and leads a very active lifestyle. She enjoys swimming, running and biking and motivates everyone to stay active and healthy.
So far, Maya has completed:
4 Marathons (New York City, Miami, Tennessee and Philadelphia)
2 Half-IRONMAN Triathlons (Syracuse, NY and Rhode Island)
4 Olympic distance New York City Triathlons
To our knowledge, Maya Sherpa will be the first Nepali to attempt IRONMAN Triathlon, which requires rigorous training, great discipline and dedication. If she successfully completes Lake Placid IRONMAN, which we are confident she will, it will be a very proud moment for Nepal and also for Nepalese people all around the world. Maya will have 17 hours to finish the race.
The objective of Maya Sherpa’s IRONMAN Triathlon participation is to raise awareness and funds for Empower1′s causes. Funds raised from this event will go towards Empower1’s new project, “OFF the Streets, ON to Life.” The project aims to provide shelter, healthcare and help rehabilitate street children in Kathmandu, Nepal.
